HI All

Today is the Chinese New Years eve and all this a day after my Birthday! I can tell ya this is the 1st year I have spent my birthday and Chinese new year at the same time in Hong Kong and boy my head is pretty damn sore today!

I have to admit that HKG is probably the best place in the world to celebrate anything. My birthday was spent with a few friends and of course some honeyz! What kind of party will it be without the latter. Well today is also New Years Eve and am meeting up with again some local friends to countdown the clock and see my 1st new year in HKG. This time last year I had to compete in few tournaments so missed it all, so this year am going to make up for it!!

Happy New Year of the pig to ya all...

Happy Birthday and Happy New Year from Hong Kong!!!!

9th Place - Korea Int'l Open 10-13.02.2007

Hi All

Well February 10 - 13 was the annual Korea International Open, event run by Charlie Williams of Dragon Promotions. Another well run event by Charlie and a playing field of 64 strong turned up from mnay different countries. This year the tournament attracted the likes of World 9 Ball Champion and defending champion Ronnie Alcano, feared money player Dennis Orcullo, Mosconi players Mika Immonen, Charlie Williams and Thorsten Hohmann, as well as many talented players from Japan, Singapore and Korea.

This is my 1st event of 2007 and if my practise form is anything to go by then i know the way i am cueing at this moment i can do well at this event. I have changed many aspects of my game since a trip to Taiwan and i do feel that i have more control over my shots than i have ever before. I am optimistic that the hard work will pay off this year.

Day 1 - I opened my campaign against Korea player Choi in my 1st round game. I played solidly through out this match and eventually won comfortable 9-5. Match number 2 was also against another Korea player and almost like the 1st match where errors was few and far between i manage a 9-4 win and that allows me to be in a situation where One more match would mean qualification into the last 16 where it then becomes a single K/O. In my final qualification match despite leadingt 6-1, and 7-3 i eventually lost this match 9-8! Not sure what happened here but few bad rolls here and there cost me. Need to win my final game on the B-side now to be assured of qualification.

Day 2 - No problem here, i won my qualification match 9-5 and am pleased the way i am playing. Into the last 16 where the 8 winners draw the 8 from losers side. I was drawn up against current Japanese JPBA number 1 player with the name of Oi! He is a player i know well as it was during 2005 world championship qualifiers held in Taiwan that we were the only 2 non-Taiwanese to win out of 11 spots available. So we kind of know each other well. Well luck definatley affected the result of this match, final resul was i lost 10-5 but can remember only missing 1 ball in this match. Oi missed a few more than me but it was one of those crazy days where either when he missed he flukes or he misses and the ball snookers me!

Well the event was eventually own by Mika Immonen, he looked great in this event and I am sure that it wont be too long before he will be winning agian. Also be familiar with the name Boram Cha. A fine young Korea lady player that i predict that we will be hearing form in the not too distant future. A star is beckoning in the ladies game. Read more about it here .(http://www.azbilliards.com/2000storya.cfm?storynum=4142)

Am pretty happy with a 9th place finish in my 1st event this year. I am looking forward to my next event in the states in March. Meanwhile its back to the practise table and keep on working on my game. Its definately looking good and you read it here 1st!

Here is the complete list of finishers for 2007 Korean International Open.

Asian Games Doha 01.12.2006 - 15.12.2006

Hi All

December the 1st , arrival in Doha with the Hong Kong team. This was really cool as we were all in the HK uniform sponsored by Addidas this year. Our kit was really neat and we all looked great and there was very much a feeling of togetherness as almost 100+ HK athletes of all disciplines boarded and landed together this day in Doha. Of course this is my 1st games and I am the obly rookie on the HK Billiards Team, my team mates this games was Marco Fu Ka Chun, Fung Kwok Wai, Chan Wai Ki and Au Chi Wai. To be selected and to be part of the 2nd biggest sporting event on earth is truly amazing. Obviously the biggest being the Olympic Games.

Day 1 - Arrived in Doha, you can already sense the excitement as tonight is the night of the Opening Ceremony and also the day where each country athletes walk into the arena with their national flags. We were looked after from the moment we arrived and seeing the other athletes al like us kitted out properly just hit home that this isnt just another tournament, its more than that. It is about doing it for yourself and more for your country, it is a dream to step on that Podium and put your country on the Map! and let the whole world see you getting that medal.

That morning we were driven to the Athletes Village, and never in my life i could have imagined on such scenese, each country was given their own block of flats and only athletes of that Country was allowed in. We had time to look around and almost everything you could have wanted was there for us in the village. Their was a specially built cinema, dining area (almost twice the size of a football field) Internet and gaming stations, gym, swimming pool, table tennis, snooker, basically the athletes had all the things in the world there to realx and enjoy during the intensity of the game. So after a quick look round and getting our free gifts itw as time to gather for the Opening Ceremony!

Opening Ceremony - OMG! that is the only way i can describe it. Imagine walking in to a football field with 90,000 flashing lights, well only this time i was not imagining! There we were the whole HK team walking with our national flags and wearing our national uniform walking into the arena where they are holding the opening ceremony. It was greta to meet the local volunteers and seeing all the other athletes at the same time. I certainly will remember this day and the feeling inside for the rest of my life, never ever have I felt such excitement and the feeling of greatness! Wow!

Day 2 - Well after the last night it was time to catch up on some rest and just chill out within our apartment, just joking around and getting use to each other. The lads are great bunch, very sarcastic and we bonded extremely well as a team. We also took time to have a look at the venue where we will be playing in. You can see pics by going to www.globalsnookercentre.co.uk and look for Asian Games.

Day 3 - Today we practised and getting back to a normal routine as the competition starting day is looming.

Day 4 - Snooker doubles started there campaign today. Reach Final of pairs vs China. SO great start for us a s we are now guranteed a medal!

Day 5 - Snooker 3 man team started. Reached final vs China! Snooker doubles unfortunately lost to a string China Team led by Ding Jun-Hui. Never the less a silevr medal and another final to be played tommorow!

Day 6 - Snooker Singles started. Marco Fu lost 4-3 to China Liang Wenbo and My other team mate lost 4-3 to Ding Jun-hui. Both lost in Quarter - Finals. HKG team lost in final yet again to China! thats China 2 golds for Ding Jun-Hui and still in Singles

Day 7 - Pool 8 ball started. I won my 1st 2 matches and now in Last 16. Beating World 9 ball Semi - Finalist Li He Wen on the way. Will now play Satoshi Kawabata tommorow. Today Ding Jun-Hui won his 3rd gold medal of the games!

Day 8 - Lost last 16 9-8 to Kawabata. Congratulations to Kawabata who went on to win the gold medal in this event. Looking at his results my match with him was the closest he had encountered, gutted to have lost but to lose to a champion makes it feel better!

Day 9 - Pool 9 Ball Started. Won my 1st match 11-5 and now up against Taiwan Wonderkid Wu Cha Ching, the 2006 world champion. Unfortunately my performance here was not that great and eventually lost 11-6. Pretty tough drawa but no excuse as it seems my effort in the 8 ball has tired me out tos ome extent and just couldnt get going in this event. No medal for me in my 1st games but vowed to be back and hopefully challenging agian in next games in 4 years time in China.

Day 10 - Well its all over for us the billiards team as concerned, we arrived back in HK 11th and to a sea of reporters and photographers at the airport. Mainly because Marco has won 2 silver medals so there was alot of media interest upon our arrival home.

A great games and I look forward to the next. The best sporting experience of my life for sure!

HK Sport Institute 11.10.06

Hi All

Today team HK went to visit the team fitness instructors and nutritionist at the HK sport institute. Well I have to admit its pretty amazing stuff as you arrive in the building with many large photos of many Hong Kong athletes who have in the past won medals for HK.

There are numerous winners from HK in lots and lots of different sports and just by looking at these pictures is a source of inspiration and gave me a lift just glancing at these winners, I surely hope in the Asian Games I can achieve success and join these elite class of winners.

Well we also did some test with the sport scientist with a aim to improve our performance, like things to do to remain calm under pressure and thinking differently, what I mean by this is that we are beginning to be trained and realising that we are not only cue sport players but more importantly we are athletes. We need to do certain things that athletes do in order to reach peak performance.

Never in the pass have i ever viewed my proffession in this way but it does make sense. Already recent happenings have made me view my sport differently. I have learnt so many things the past couple of weeks that I seem to have a new found ethusiasm to compete at the moment, maybe this is that extra 15-20% I have been looking for to make me a winner!

Meeting With Sport Psychologist 10.10.06

Hi All

Today had a meeting with my Sport Psychologist. As now I am part of the HK billiard team I am assigned fitness instructors, Nutritionist and Spart Psychologist with the aim to improve in all areas and be ready for the Asian Games in December.

I have to admit that the meeting and chat with the Sport Psychologist was much needed, for the 1st time in log time I have manage to share all my negatives thoughts with someone and turning them into more positives energy. Already I can feel the improvement in my mentality after just one session so I cannot wait for the next one from when I return from Russia!

Team HK is going to the HK sport Institute tommorow.

I have never played in Russia so this will be a completely new experience for me, We recently beat Russia in the world cup of pool so i dont think i will be a very popular figure there!

Have meeting with sport psychologist tommorow so should be interesting.

Hi All

Today was a prety busy day meeting the media. For the 1st time since the nomination of the HK billiards Asian Games team, all 5 nominations was present for newspaper photos and TV interviews.

Am not use to all this publicity stuff but its proving to be fun talking to media especially as I came back from UK to represent HK, the media is kinda loving the mysterious factor about me as they have never ever seen me before nor do they have much information on me!

Well tommorow is back to normal, just plenty of practise.

Back In Hong Kong 25.09.06

Hi All

Well am finally back in HK. After the Bali Open i decided to spend some more time in Jakarta with a special person who name I wont mention so I don't embarass. All I can say is that I was sad to leave Jakarta....

Some bad news after all, I have not got the spot from HK in stage 2 WPC as hoped so therefore will have to try and do the impossible and try and earn a place via stage 1 in Manila. It was tough enough last year in Taiwan where I came through but I am sure this will be tougher, but if you dont buy a ticket then you cannot win right? so lets go and see what happens..at the end of the day its only another tournament.

The night was a success organised by the ever popular Ms Morry who instigated the party and safe to say everyone was drunk and had a great time..some great dancing went on and I tell ya that Django can bop a bit hey. What a greta end to a great tournament. Must be the best open tournament I have ever participated in and I dont think anywhere in the world will match the Bali Open.

Roll on next year...

Eventual Champion was Django for 2nd year in a row and 1st player ever to successfully defend this title and with it the winners cheque of $11K. USD.

Now we are all of to the farewell party

Bali Opening Ceremony 18.09.06

Hi All

Well tonight at 7pm it was time for the Bali Opening ceremony. It was pretty amazing scenes as a parade of dancers and flag bearers was carrying each country flag into the ceremony arena outside. All the players, guests and officials was treated to a buffet and free drinks whilst the speeches and dances was taking place.

After all the preliminaries of the ceremony pass by it was time to do the draw where each countries representative was responsible for going up the stage to pick out their own fate into the draw.

Also each country was assigned a Liason officer who was at out beckon call. This Bali Open is a truly greta tournament and already I am eager to come back and participate next year.

Time for bed as action begins tommorow.

Arriving In Bali 18.09.06

Hi All

Well I have to tell ya, never ever have I witness such great treatment for players for this Bali Open. We the players from San Miguel literally had to do nothing as everything was taken care for us from the moment we arrived at Jakarta airport to when we landed in Bali.

On landing in Bali we the players was greeted with traditional Balinese dancers and each getting a ring of flower placed around our necks and then invited to a tea room where we had drink and food waiting for us while out luggage was being attended to. It was absolutely 1st class treatment and made us feel like kings. After all luggage was collected a coach arrived taking us all to the venue where the tournaments was held.

On arrival at the venue again more greetings from the hotel organisers as all the players who came from Jakarta ESPN was greeted with photographers and glasses of Long Island tea's! It was another 5 star performance form the organisers. After all the photos we were then taken inside where we were given our rooms and itinery for the evening. So far unbelivable.

Karaoke Night 15.09.06

Hi All

Well after playing today and unsuccesfully advancing to the quarter-finals, a group of us led by a pretty young lady has decided we should drown our sorrows and party in Club 36 in Jakarta, where a Karaoke room was arranged for us, roughly group of 15 and we sang the night away and danced!

The party was real great fun and I have to admit what a great bunch of people these guys on the Asian Tour are, we all had a great night out obviously fuelled with drinks and laughter. Many Thanks to out party leader Ms Morry from Indonesia. She was the life and soul of our party (well apart from me)! and really showed us a great night.

Well enough about the night...confidential what happened next!

1st Match on TV Table 15.09.06

Hi All

Well the time was up 12.30pm and my 1st match was against Indonesian No.1 player Muhammed Zulfriki who in last San Miguel Asian tour leg finished 3rd. I knew this was going to be a tough match on the TV table with the cameras rolling and in front of his home crowd.

Well I raced into a 3-1 lead without missing a shot and all looking good so far, however after moving 4-2 clear nothing else went right for me after that. It was a case of dry breaks and no shots on to go for after that. I did not miss a ball when I had a ball to shoot at in this match. I lost the match 9-4 but in fairness if I had miss balls and played bad then I would have been dissapointed but the way the match went I had no more shots to go ar after leading 4-3. The combination of dry breaks and good play form Zulfriki meant that even thought I not miss a ball meant a lost of 9-4.

Well later in the day Muhammed also beat Patrick Ooi in my group so he has 2 wins from 2. It is only groups of 3 so therefore my last match was a meaningless affair. never the less we played it like an exhibition eventually Patrick winning 9-7. well time to party abit after all my tournament has finished here.

ESPN Players Press Conference 14.09.06

Hi All

It was the San Miguel Asian 9 Ball Tour players press conference today, and you guessed it San Miguel beer was on Display! The press conference started at approx 1pm, there was the guest speeched from Indonesian President of billiards as well as Diana Chan from ESPN and representatives from San Miguel. After the conclusion of speeches from various parties, in came the traditional dancers doing some local dancing for us, during the dances the dancers was asking for volunteers and of course many did not...instead they dragged 3 from the crowd of players and yes you you guessed it i was one and like a fool had to copy the moves of the dancers on stage! It was a very embarassing moment but all for a good cause!

After such preliminaries time was up for the draw and one by one, the players picked out their own number and the draw was made. The outcome was that I was in group D with 5th seeded Patrick Ooi and Muhammed Zulfriki (the Indonesian no.1). Tommorow the tournament begins, time for some food and practise and then off to bed.

Arrived Back In UK And Some Good News 07.09.06

Hi All

Today i arrived back in the UK. The plan was going in here to play in couple of events and ready for IPT event in London next month however like i said at the IPT players meeting this was announced cancelled so i guess i had to make some other arrangments...and guess what!

Today i checked my emails and i have been officially awarded a wildcard for the last leg of the San Miguel Asian Tour in Jakarta which is televsied on ESPN Asia from 15th-17th. This has really come out of the blue for me. Bare in mind this is the last leg means really i must make as much opportunity of this as possible.

So my schedule means i am due to fly back Hong Kong on 9th Sept and fly to Jakarta on 13th for photos, interviews and player meeting prior to the event. After the event i will be moving on to the Bali open in which i have been given a stage 2 invite into the main tournament of 96 players. Well it should be fun and no doubt i will be just be sleeping in the next few days to prepare for this event.

Well i hope to bring you great news from Jakarta and Bali....

IPT Tournament Begins 04.09.06

Hi All

Well my IPT event 2 tournament has began and this is how it went.

I got off to a great start against Tang Hoa and won mys 1st match 8-5. Things looking good and one more win from my group from last 3 matches will be good enough to see me through to the 2nd day of this prestigious $3million DollardsWorld 8 Ball Open.

Well they say you are only as good as your match and that couldnt be more true here. Next up was Niels Feijen the European Number 2 and one of the best players in the world at this moment in time. Early doors it was 2-2 then after that it was all one way traffic, Niels played exceptionally well and really deserved his 8-2 win.

My 3rd match was against Jerry Calderon, and really i should have won this match. I was 5-3 up playing faultless then a absolutely 1 in a million run out from Jerry seems to have fired him up and after making it 4-5 he went on to play almost perfect 8 ball and won the match 8-5. I was absolutely stunned but what else could i do when a fellow proffessional plays like that!

Well my last chance and if i win this match i am thru..well it wasnt meant to be. The guy played like god and sometimes when your best is not good enough then it is almost satisfying to lose and knowing there isnt else much i could have done. I played worser matches and won before but no complaints this time, my opponent only missed 1 ball the whole set and ran away with the match 8-2. Well thats it i am out and looking forward to going home i guess.
